Yes to tourism, without sacrificing our good old portuguese charm!

We are proud to be Portuguese, we are proud of our products and our culture, we support tourism but we think it has to be done in a proper way so as not to lose what is ours and what gives us our particular charm. After all the tourists love Portugal because we are a not so well known place that keeps its traditions; the old facades, the eternal pastries, traditional taverns. Our charism is in our more “mundane” traits.

Since we divide our time between Lisbon and Marvão, we see what has been happening in Lisbon with the emergence of thousands of tourists, which has been very good for the development of our capital but now may have reached that point where we need to pay attention. After all we do not want to be just another tourist capital as the many more that already exist. Catarina Portas, owner of the stores “A Vida Portuguesa” speaks repeatedly of the need to structure tourism so that we do not end up closing our traditional stores and turn them into more Starbucks and hotels and she is absolutely right.

Tourism yes, but with a strategy! After all it is necessary to keep our traditions, we do not want to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.
