Why eat fresh, seasonal and local food?

Cada vez mais, ter uma alimentação saudável passa não só pela quantidade, o tipo de comida que comemos, mas também pela sua origem.
Consumir alimentos de agricultura biológica, que são sujeitos a controlo e a certificações e que foram cultivados para terem um menor impacto no meio ambiente, é essencial. Se conseguirmos ir introduzindo na nossa alimentação diária alimentos de origem biológica, com ausência de poluentes e uma maior tolerância face à flora e à fauna em redor, estamos a contribuir para um ambiente melhor e a defender a nossa saúde. Ao plantarmos os nossos próprios legumes, temos essas decisões na mão. Ao consumirmos alimentos cultivados por nós, além de ser uma satisfação e de estamos em contacto directo com a terra, começamos a apreciar mais as estações do ano, a natureza em geral, e apercebemo-nos como é vulnerável este equilíbrio entre o que é bom para o ambiente e a produção em grande escala. É claro que, depois de iniciar esta prática, vai ser difícil voltar atrás, e o mais certo é passar a ver todos os alimentos com outros olhos. As palavras «fresco», «sazonal» e «local» ganham real importância.
